I know a lot of you guys have been wanting to see the videos you see on YouTube playing on you very own phone or perhaps on your computer without having to go online. There are like tons of ways you can do that. One way I know is by using an online tool to download the YouTube video on your phone. But it doesn’t stop there. Videos downloaded from YouTube are in FLV(Adobe Flash VIdeo) format and cannot be played using Windows Media Player, Quicktime of Real Player. You still have to do one of two things. It’s either you convert the video to a format that is compatible with or recognized by Windows Media Player, Real Player or Quicktime; or download a media player that will be capable of playing the video for you.

Let’s start with downloading the video. There are a lot of online tools you can use to download the YouTube videos, and one of the most famous is the downloader tool from TechCrunch with can be found here. There are also some tools that you’ll have to download and install on your system that will automatically list down the downloadable media on a webpage that you’re visiting, whether it be a video, or music like mp3.

If you plan to put the video on your phone, you need to have a phone that has enough memory so that it could be capable of storing the video, and has a video player that is capable of playing mobile video formats like 3gp or avi or mp4. The phone should also have a way of exchanging information with your computer, either with a USB cable or through Bluetooth. Then you’l need a video converter on your computer to convert the video that you’ve downloaded from YouTube to any of the file formats that I’ve mentioned earlier.There are lots of converters out there that you can use. But what I have been using, myself, is the all-in-one video converter by eRightSoft (see my post Looking for a 3GP Converter?). It converts very efficiently and has versions of the file formats that are compatible for all phone platforms. Such an amazing and flexible converter.

If you plan to just store the YouTube video on your computer, you’ll need to have a media player that can play FLV file format. I know of a couple. The famous VLC player that can be downloaded here. Or a specially made FLV player like this one.
