Dell Pasay Loses Grip, Gives in to Teleperformance

Today is the saddest day for all Dell Philippines employees.
Just this morning, the Dell management announced the closure of Dell Pasay. Teleperformance bought Dell Pasay for 200+ Million Pesos*, including the employees, the facilities, existing contracts and all the liabilities of the company.
The Dell Pasay management team gave their employees 4 days to decide whether to stay or leave. If they stay, Teleperformance will acquire them as regular-probationary employees (they will experience the benefits of a regular employee, but will undergo probationary evaluation, which means they can still be terminated within 3-6 months if they fail to perform as expected).
Dell reportedly allotted 7.5 Million Pesos for the retention/separation package to be given to all employees. All the employees shall be paid 1/2 times their monthly salary per year of service. This means if I have worked for Dell for 2 years, I will get a retention/separation package that’s equal to 1 month of my salary. If I choose to stay, the retention package shall be taxable, and non-taxable if I choose to leave. In addition to this, the employees also get to receive their very last ICP (the yearly performance bonus, which is normally 100 – 150% of their salary per cut off). All their remaining leave credits will also be carried over to Teleperformance if they stay. Employees who choose to stay will get the same basic salary, but the allowances shall be slashed off the package.
I was an employee of Dell Pasay for 1 year and 4 months until September of last year when I got fed up with selling. Now I realized that I have made the right move to transfer to ACS when I felt that I already needed to do so. If I stayed in Dell, I could have been one of the unfortunate guys who are crying at 7-11 with a bottle of beer while trying to survive the dilemma.
Updates:
- Retention bonus will only be given to employees who will stay after rendering 3 months with Teleperformance
- Before employees get to sign the contract with Teleperformance, they are required to submit a resignation letter addressed to Dell first. (forced resignation)

If there’s one thing you all have found out… it’s that having a paymaster other than your own is surely a good way to be on a LEASH until you all get over your addiction to being paid by an employer.
In the meantime, you’ll just have to suck it up, and rely on a steady, secure paycheck and hope for a good retirement, or FIND A WAY out of the Rat Race.
This comments section has run a full 61 or so comments since the blog came out, and if I was a Dell customer, or customer serviced by Teleperformance, I’d be thinking what kind of culture both companies are running.
All the profanities and flaming and spilling your skeletons on the closet won’t make things any better. You’ll all still be slaves to wages!
And if you have put your rants on Facebook or Friendster, you better find a way to pull it out. Coz you just screwed yourself for your next job. If I could Google your names and find your dirt online, like this one, what’s to stop the next company from Googling your names?
And if you have covered your tracks and used a nomme de guerre, congratulations for being prudent. Isn’t it easy to insult people when you’re hiding your name behind a nick, huh?
People, please end this fighting and put your energies to better use climbing the corporate ladder or finding a way to own the ladder then.

Sa mga TP guys, sensha na, medyo masakit lang talaga yung nangyari sa DELL peeps dito sa pasay e. I’m quite sure that we are not really angry at TP, but rather we feel ultimately betrayed by DELL. At least na lang kahit nilaglag kami bigla, may trabaho pa rin. Kaya ayun, I really don’t think that the majority of our frustration and anger are for TP, but rather for DELL. Mahirap lang sabihin yun, kasi sa totoo lang DELL really did take care of us. But then again, ultimately, DELL scr@wed us. Peace!
PS: nga pala, sa mga TP peeps, wala pa akong nakikitang post dito na pinagmamalaki nyo ang kumpanya nyo e. Parang ang dating kayo mismo naiinis din sa CCMS nyo, or sa palakad sa inyo, etc. Nakakatakot lang para sa isang taong palipat na sa inyo. Contrasting kasi e, yung mga post ng DELL lovers, puro puri sa DELL, yung mga post ng TP lovers puro “magsama tayo sa hirap dito sa TP.” Ipagmalaki nyo naman trabaho nyo.

first, if you are talking about the Rat Race, you better do your homework right.. one of the reasons why dell is great it’s because there are employees that with a help of working in dell, have their own businesses(in which got approved by dell’s HR) that they run.. and it’s only in dell as far as i know that technician’s like us can get certifications such as A+, MCP, and CCNA… can TP offer that? I don’t think so… that’s why the discussion here is so heated because of reasons like that…
the call center culture in the philippines is so small, we can even tell that we have a friend in each of the call centers here.. so we all know IMO except for the newly grads applying on a call center, the ins and outs of the call center companies here so we can really tell who’s in and who’s not…
the heat of the discussion will still continue, because of blogs like this we can freely express what we feel when you’re gonna be handed to a company that you don’t really like…

Sorry, I consider a good living is when you have PASSIVE INCOME full time, not when you’re working for another paymaster. It only means that you didn’t have enough cash to do whatever you want.
Or did you mean after you worked at Dell, then I say more power to those people, they’ve paid their dues and moved on to being financially free.

Think about it: before DELL’s collapse, when you were back in your cubicle taking calls from people who have no idea what a mouse is and are asking you to help them with it, or that they got a non-working DELL PC right out of the box, did you consider DELL as the best company in the universe? Given a choice to work between Dell and godly Google, would you still choose DELL? Between working in DELL and having your own business, would you still work in DELL? I am sure DELL is a good company, but given a better choice, you wouldn’t be there. It’s just that we have an old saying that goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.” The only reason people are saying how sorry they are that DELL’s gone is because, let’s face it, IT’S GONE. Get it? Nobody’s praising TP yet because we’re not the ones losing jobs here. If TP people were the ones losing their jobs, trust me, this blog would be filled with laments about people MISSING CCMS. And that would just be for starters. Point is, Teleperformance is a good company, but it’s far from perfect. And just as I believe that DELL’s a good company, I know it also has flaws, otherwise nobody here would be ranting about their Indian owners or be shell-shocked about DELL’s departure.

Hi swirling tempest, I know that you are from TP. I am proud to come from Dell so I know that the management that we had BEFORE at Dell was incomparable.. It just got really bad since the 2nd quarter of last year when we felt that Dell was cutting costs already.. Our American country manager had to be replaced by an Indian and that’s when it started getting really bad.

I hope you would understand how they are acting right now because they are just full of emotions so they get offended easily. Honestly speaking Dell WAS a “dream come true” to a lot of technicians.. And you’ll never know what that means unless you’ve worked in a Dell badged site. They are the most generous company I’ve worked in. Tons of cash bonuses, tons of give aways, it’s easy to file leaves, they award good employees with more money, the management has a good relationship with the technicians. I couldn’t ask for more.

But sadly, any beautiful dream would have to end. And this dream of prestige and pride for Dell Pasay employees has just ended. I am a former Dell employee and in this post, Dell employees found a place to reminisce and be proud of having to work with Dell, though it meant being sour about being forcefully transferred to TP.
I am not belittling TP because I know how successful your company is. TP is a primary player in the global call center industry, but the pride of bearing the Dell Badge is just irreplaceable.

To make the facts straight, CVG did not win the bidding. meaning, they cannot afford the price. On the other hand, TP offered a higher price for buying the facilities.

Ang issue dito, malilipat at malilipat ang dell sa TP. Kung ibbrag mo parin yang DELL CULTURE mo? well bilog ang mundo! lets say, oras mo lang ngaun.. malas nga lang? diba? One word of advice.. dalin mo lahat nyang mga certifcations mo sa ibang companya at duon ka ibuhos ang kayabangan mo. ACCEPTANCE LANG BRAD? WAG BITTER!

Sige fine, nagbibigay ang DELL ng mga training programs like A+, mcp, ccna or kung ano pang pambango ng resume at pampganda ng credentials. Hinde nyo na kailagan ibrag yang mga certifications para lang masabi na mas okay nga ang DELL CULTURE? Ang issue dito, malilipat na kayo sa TP. Bilog ang mundo wika nga, nangyari lang, minalas kayo. oras oras lang yan brad. one word of advice,.. dalin mo lahat nyang certifications mo sa ibang company at duon mo ibuhos ang kayabangan at isaksak mo mga baga ng HR yan. Whatever TP employees are posting now is just a response to that one, offending post, and that’s how this word war began.
